About Us
The Community Media Project (CMP) is an arts outreach program of the film department and the Peck School of the Arts and has been in existence since 1985. It's Director is Portia Cobb-Heyward, an associate professor in the film department at UWM.
The mission of the CMP is to provide artistic programming and outreach for under-served audiences--at UWM and in Milwaukee’s central city. We do this by offering free film screenings and production workshops for teachers and young producers.
The CMP's programming is diverse and inclusive in its scope. Much of what we have accomplished has been facilitated through partnerships with community-based agencies ( America's Black Holocaust Museum, The Black Historical Society, The Greater Milwaukee YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Children's Outing Association, Mid-Town Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood House, Journey House and El Puente Alternative High School).
